The Pedal to the Metal, Totally Illegal, Cross-Continental Sprint for Glory
in Wired by Charles Graeber, November 2007
Thirty-one hours, four minutes -- that's how much time it took Alex Roy and Henry Fyshe to drive from New York to Los Angeles in a wild (and illegal) coast-to-coast dash that broke the 1983 record known as Cannonball Run. Armed with a tricked-out BMW, a support staff of 14, and a very intricate Excel spreadsheet, the drivers used an arsenal of radar-jamming and -detecting equipment to avoid the 31,000 highway cops that threatened to end their quest. Roy and Fyshe are making their trip into a documentary, but Graeber's pulse-pounding account is as engrossing as anything you'll find in theaters.
