The Dutch have developed one way to deal with global warming: floating houses. With two-thirds of the population living below sea level and dry land at a premium, the new homes being built by Dutch company Dura Vermeer are sparking interest not just in the Netherlands, but worldwide. Marketplace visits an amphibious house and talks with builder Wim Verkerk, who describes how the homes are able to shift up to 18 feet up or down on iron pillars. The intriguing piece contains a bit of levity, too, as Verkerk jokes that people compare him to Noah building the ark.
