Slow Food, High Gear
in The Atlantic by Corby Kummer, January/February 2008
Part publicity for Slow Food's University of Gastronomic Sciences in Pollenzo, Italy, and part polemic in support of the Slow Food movement, Kummer's essay meanders through the organization's efforts while describing a three-week bicycle tour along the Po River with the university's students. On the trip, fish farming and vegetable growing mix with radical educational goals that are nearly messianic in fervor. The movement is global, attracting activists and students who are planning an international summit called Terra Madre in October. Fascinating if somewhat scattered, this story about food aficionados is full of interesting, tasty tidbits.
